How To Choose A Good Affiliate Program
The amount of Affiliate programs on offer can be a bit overwhelming when you first start out. There seems to be a never ending list of topics and if you're anything like I was, you will keep changing your mind from one program to the next until you're totally confused and at a loss what to do for the best.
To make it easier for you I will supply a set of guidelines for you to follow to ensure you select the correct Affiliate program. This is not an exhaustive list but it will set the foundations on which you can build.
Things To Check When Choosing a Program To Promote
1. Demand - There must be a demand for the product the merchant is offering. There is no point trying to promote a product no-one wants. You can check the demand by visiting the Google Keyword tool. Here you can find a wealth of information such as how many searches were made for your particular niche keywords in the previous month along with the cost per click advertisers are paying for the keywords related to the product you want to offer. This is a great tool for identifying high commission paying Adsense ads which you can position on your page. More on this in a later post.
2. Commission Rate - The higher the commission rate the better. If you're promoting a low value item you will have to make a lot of sales to earn a decent amount and this can be as difficult as promoting a higher value item. You need commissions of around 50% to %60 if you're promoting digital goods, for instance e-books. On the other hand higher value items with a commission rate of 20% to 45% would suffice.
3. Customer Support - Your Affiliate program must supply good customer support. Most good Affiliate programs have an Affiliate Manager who you can contact with regard to any problems, issues or information you need.
4. Convincing Sales Copy - The sales letter must be convincing enough to get people to buy the product. Examine the sales letter as you would if you were the customer and ask yourself if you would buy the product if you visited the page. Are there any testimonials from satisfied customers giving the product a glowing report. This will make the product easier to sell and so boost your conversion rate
5. Money Back Guarantee - No excuses here. The product should have a money-back guarantee. If the product owner doesn't offer one then you'd better find something different to promote.
6. Contact Details - A physical address and contact information should be visible on the site
7. Statistics - The affiliate program must supply real-time statistics to enable you gauge how many visits to the site you are converting into sales
